Pulsed magnetic field exposure induces lasting changes in neural network dynamics

چکیده
How extremely low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic fields (such as power line exposure) impacts brain activity is today an intense area of research. One challenge is to unveil transduction mechanisms allowing ELF to interact with brain tissue. Thus, we present a cortical network model receiving internal and external stimuli. Using frequency analysis, we study how these stimuli durably modulate network dynamics depending on exposure duration, stimuli properties and transduction mechanisms. Our results indicate that these stimuli induce different responses in the frequency domain. Ultimately, such models might be useful in evaluating power line exposure thresholds, and in developing innovative brain stimulation methods. & 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Scrutiny of brain signals variations in regions Cz, C3 and C4 under Local Exposure of Extremely Low Frequency and Weak pulsed Magnetic Field to promote Neurofeedback systems
Introduction: Researchers have long been interested in the effects of low intensity (less than 500 microtesla) and Extremely Low Frequency Magnetic Fields (ELF-MF, less than 300 Hz) on human’s brain activity. In this study, our purpose was to analyze the effect of local magnetic field pulses around brain regions Cz, C3, C4 on human electroencephalogram (EEG) and induction of resonance effect...
متن کاملDesign and Fabrication of Helmholtz Coils to Study the Effects of Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields on the Healing Process in Periodontitis: Preliminary Animal Results
Background: Effects of electromagnetic fields on healing have been investigated for centuries. Substantial data indicates that exposure to electromagnetic field can lead to enhanced healing in both soft and hard tissues. Helmholtz coil is a device that generates pulsed electromagnetic fields. Objective: In this study, a pair of Helmholtz coils for enhancing thehealing process in periodontitis w...
متن کاملSpeech discrimination after early exposure to pulsed-noise or speech.
Early experience of structured inputs and complex sound features generate lasting changes in tonotopy and receptive field properties of primary auditory cortex (A1). In this study we tested whether these changes are severe enough to alter neural representations and behavioral discrimination of speech. We exposed two groups of rat pups during the critical period of auditory development to pulsed...
متن کاملSystem Dynamics and Artificial Neural Network Integration: A Tool to Valuate the Level of Job Satisfaction in Services
Job Satisfaction (JS) plays important role as a competitive advantage in organizations especially in helth industry. Recruitment and retention of human resources are persistent problems associated with this field. Most of the researchs have focused on the job satisfaction factors and few of researches have noticed about its effects on productivity. However, little researchs have focused on the ...
متن کاملEvaluating the Changes in Alpha-1 Band Due to Exposure to Magnetic Field
Introduction Increase in alpha band is observed when blood perfusion in frontal area of head decreases. The present study evaluated some changes in the alpha band particularly, alpha-1 of frontal and central areas of the head, when several areas were exposed simultaneously to magnetic field. Materials and Methods Five points of head (F3, F4, Cz, T3, and T4) of twenty healthy male participants w...
